The celebration of someone special

This blog is not written to hurt anyone’s feelings or to oppose someone.

We recently celebrated Father’s Day, and before that, we celebrated Mother’s Day, and before that, we had a variety of other days celebrating someone special in our lives. I do agree that these occasions provide an opportunity to express love, gratitude, and appreciation toward the people near and dear to us. While I respect your opinions, I’d like you to read this blog with an open mind too.

Over the years, something so beautiful has been overly commercialized, with the focus shifting towards buying gifts and materialistic gestures rather than genuine sentiments. This commercialization can sometimes overshadow the true meaning behind these occasions. I honestly feel that showing appreciation for your loved ones should not be confined to a single day. Expressing love, gratitude, and support should be an ongoing practice throughout the year rather than relying solely on a designated day.

For some unfortunate individuals, these holidays can be emotionally challenging, especially for those who have experienced loss, or strained relationships, or who may not have had positive figures. It may inadvertently bring up painful memories or feelings of exclusion. These days can create pressure to meet societal expectations and standards, making some feel obligated to participate, even if it doesn't resonate with them. This pressure might lead to feelings of stress or guilt. Emphasizing continuous appreciation, inclusivity, and breaking free from commercialization could foster a more inclusive and meaningful approach to honoring our loved ones.

It is important to acknowledge that these arguments do not diminish the importance of celebrating and appreciating parents or caregivers. I know very well that these days have their sentimental charm and emotional values, and I am not writing this blog to oppose them. It is just my way of celebrating the ones special to me. Rather than relying on designated days, I focus more on showing love and appreciation for my parents every day, embracing the diverse forms of caregiving and gratitude, even if it is in the smallest of ways possible. After all, a simple "I love you" or a spontaneous gesture might have far more impact than any grandiose or even any form of celebration on a specific day. So, all I want to say is, let's celebrate our parents in our unique ways, without the pressure and pointlessness of these commercialized holidays. See you next Monday!
